Vacamas runs programs for underserved urban youth in rural camp and public school settings. We need committed, motivated, qualified individuals to serve as counselors during the weekends and throughout the summer, tutors in all of our settings, child care workers in our after care programs, and administrative support staff.

  • Program Coordinator
    Job Description: Curriculum development and teaching in alternative school. Direct summer camp and after school programs.  Set and monitor behavior management and modification, and conflict resolution.  Intervention and result analysis. Requirements: BA - Education. 2 years teaching and behavior modification experience.   • Summer Camp Counselor
    Help a child have the summer of a lifetime…
    Vacamas is seeking motivated and energetic people to be counselors this summer at our non-profit sleep away camps in New York and New Jersey. Applicants must be over 18 and willing to live on site during the 10-week season. Room and board and competitive salary provided.  Experience is an advantage but not essential.   • Rural Weekend Counselor
    Help an inner-city youth experience the joy of outdoor learning...
    Vacamas provides weekend programming at our Camp in West Milford during the school year months. We are seeking candidates with an interest in working with children and a commitment to outdoor learning. Candidates should be at least 19 years old and have completed one year of college. If you would like to become a Staff Member, email your resume to Vacamas.

About Our Staff

Vacamas staff members are chosen from hundreds of applicants for their maturity, skills and commitment to young people. They are carefully screened and closely supervised by trained camp professionals. The typical counselor at Camp Vacamas is over 21 years old and has experience in working with children. Staff members come from the tri-state area, across the United States and throughout the world. All counselors take part in a week-long orientation to prepare for the most important job of looking after each child's physical and emotional safety. Each counselor has responsibility for between four and eight children.
