Alternative Education Program

Vacamas' Alternative Education is a day program designed to engage students in the 4th through 10th grades who are enrolled in Alternative Education Programs in their home school districts. We offer a hands-on experiential learning environment where we teach group cooperation, positive communication, team-building, conflict mediation, life skills and improved socialization skills. If requested, an extensive environmental outdoor education component following state curriculum can be added to the Program.

Each of our Alternative Education programs is custom-designed in collaboration with the specific Board of Education based on individual needs and requirements of each school district. The program features the required four hours per day of education in the non-traditional teaching environment of our rural 230-acre campus in West Milford, New Jersey.

We places strong emphasis on extensive low and high ropes courses and initiative activities designed specifically to develop team-building and cooperation among the students.

The program is offered on a complete school year calendar utilizing several indoor buildings as well as a full gymnasium during inclement weather. A hot breakfast and lunch are served meeting state nutritional guidelines as part of the program.
